Lore & Background

Ripley's assumption of safety proved to be a lethal miscalculation. As the Narcissus drifted through the freezing void between stars, the creature she had fought so desperately to destroy lay dormant within the shuttle's ventilation shafts. The fifty-seven-year voyage transformed from a peaceful return into a long, silent drift; hidden in the darkness, the xenomorph remained fully active and alive throughout the journey. Upon finally waking aboard the drifting rescue ship in deep space, Ripley discovered the creature was still very much present, forcing her to engage in a final, desperate confrontation before ejecting it into the void.

In Their Own Story

A sharp hiss of decompressing gas cut through the silence as frost receded from the cryo-pod glass, revealing Ellen Ripley’s pale, suspended face. Her eyes fluttered open to the dim, flickering emergency lights of the Narcissus. The void was absolute; her movements stiff and clumsy after years of stillness, she reached for the controls to signal Earth. But as she turned her head, a long, obsidian shadow detached itself from the ceiling grating above. It moved with a fluid, unnatural grace, its mandibles clicking softly in the dark. Ripley froze, the cold of space instantly replaced by a burning surge of terror. The nightmare had not ended; it had merely been paused.

Reader's Guide

The journey begins immediately after the Nostromo's self-destruct sequence, leaving Ripley alone in the Narcissus shuttle. Believing the threat neutralized, she activates her cryosleep pod to survive the multi-year trek back to Earth. During the voyage, the xenomorph remains hidden within the ship's ventilation system, surviving on ambient heat and waiting for the right moment to emerge. The crew of the rescue vessel, USCSS Sulaco, monitors the shuttle as it approaches the colony, completely unaware of the stowaway. Just as the Narcissus prepares for final docking procedures near Earth or a relay station, the creature awakens from its dormancy. Ripley is forced to wake prematurely and engage in a brutal fight for survival within the confined space of the shuttle before she can finally transmit her distress signal and ensure the ship's destruction to contain the threat.
